It is a 6 hour drive out of Buenos Aires. We travelled there overnight on special coaches which had EXTREMELY comfortable seats. If only airplanes could be like this. We slept well & woke up several hundred kilometeres from where we left!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitzrhekOAGiaWgDKa0oJrC5lCE2o-LKpNMSqGu7Pba2BpV5gdEgXcKDq29Y2swVytCPkMS0FUmRwZbZW4iJMYObW2usk31c6NMbWPJ8kZACPkNP_dzwD-8iFPWMhMB9KL68xMpig/s320/NecocheaBeach.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294108922106674322" />It was high summer in Argentina & Necochea is a holiday town. Since we arrived so early in the morning we got to the beach around 9am when it was empty but by midday it was packed & the temperature had risen steeply. My Dad & I had never experienced heat like it & had to buy a sun umbrella to shade us before it was all too much & we retreated to the shade of a seafront cafe for a cool beer.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMN2ZJ66eQfvA5uMg1-3e3eoT0kiOIr6rC-ROvLSJJ4CgmqHkSv-cuCcADtJ6z0B-sm8_OPorh1hG3Zj9RNsvzOIUDoaVLdJe_F2-BGo_k5F5BSpB83w0Zxr89JZrdWNgFtFWlSA/s320/LocoTaxi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294109384706511650" />The wedding was in the evening & that night there was a freak storm, the heavens opened & torrential rain hammered down for a couple hours. We had a crazy taxi ride to the church with a local cabbie who saw nothing wrong in driving on the wrong side, driving up grass verges, cutting diagonally across cross junctions through traffic to get us to the church on time!Matt Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06691360081537045523noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19381734.post-1145211383434225952006-04-16T11:14:00.000-07:002006-04-16T11:16:23.446-07:00Cucaracha!Every evening when we got back to the hotel we'd find this guy in the bathroom!

<img style="display:block; We stayed at the Hotel Goya on Suipacha St. The room is small, very stuffy & cockroaches come up through the bathroom floor!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb_aVguo5hhNAsn_UpciccZRNqbHQF13Vbvx8CuKMpOt_VXhHUaMQBj9t9InUFpWauCr6EpRtKE-AN9QK1D0ZEkh2h8r01trMk6Q_AOCNS8mQXdPGvYH0QFTQSo12hlNBM-6UnWw/s400/Matt&Dinner.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289217092224777250" />Argentina is renowned for its beef & we made sure we found a traditional steak-house to sample the meat.Matt Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06691360081537045523noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19381734.post-1133175119124921212005-11-28T02:38:00.000-08:002009-01-31T13:48:26.572-08:00The tripIn January 2005 my Dad & I visited South America on a 3 week trip to Argentina & Peru. It all came about after an invite from a friend to attend his wedding in Buenos Aires. I wanted to combine this with a trip to Peru to see Macchu Pichu, the famous Inca city in the clouds. When I told my Dad about my plans he said he'd always wanted to see Macchu Pichu too so we agreed to go together.
We both took hundreds of photos & I kept a sketchbook of the entire journey. This blog will be a selection of photos & drawings that show the highlights of our South American odyssey.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUG3TCxUuP5auH5Y5Ug6ybg_9GqdUBhBBx7nOOKcDN11R72VwOAwDN4W9SNfWTtWq1NTLFFjd-eU_FRTcdEOOJcxrXYD4HYWxjzyW7isxETE-DiE4jHDvQtAvEskdPOW9ZiODS9A/s400/EnRouteArgentina.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289210658043010754" />We leave London Heathrow at 7.15pm on January 4th, 2005.
